We are a small group of volunteers, voluntary sector organisations and researchers working together to promote a dialogue between the patients of GP practices in Oxford and the local NHS. Our focus is on primary and community care services.
In 2019 the NHS changed how it organises itself. Locally there is now a very big organisation, an Integrated Care System, covering the three counties of Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and West Berkshire and in Oxfordshire 19 much smaller organisations made up of 2-5 GP practices (Primary Care Networks). In 2025 it is changing again – getting larger, but with a 50% reduction in staff.
Managers are busy rearranging things – but there has been limited engagement with patients about what this will mean for their local services. The voice of the patient matters, and services will be better if they are planned with patients from the outset.
The Oxford Patient Network is committed to increasing the patient voice in decisions made about our local primary health and care services. As individuals we cannot represent the views of all patients in Oxford, so we remind decision makers that they should consult widely with all patients and support others to make their voices heard.
